Health Department announces Child Care Nutrition workshops

Bedford Now - 9/29/2017

The Monroe County Health Department has announced its next round of Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment for Child Care (NAP SACC) workshops.

Monroe County is one of five Michigan locations selected to implement the NAP SACC program.

The goal is to assist child care facilities in improving their nutrition and physical activity environments, including policies and practices, for the prevention of obesity in young children.

All licensed Monroe County child care centers and homes are welcome to take part in NAP SACC.

Previously participating sites are encouraged to participate again and share their experiences with the group. This program is free of charge.

The workshops will be offered at the health department, 2353 S. Custer Road, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.Sept. 27 and Nov. 1.

The topics this fall include ideas for sending healthy habits home, including free resources to help providers communicate health information to parents.

NAP SACC consultants also will present information on creating a breastfeeding friendly facility and tips for supporting families with a breastfed baby.

Each participating child care center will be recognized with a certificate of completion, as well as acknowledgment on the Monroe County Health Department website and Facebook page.

Providers will also be entered into a raffle to win free educational materials for their site.

Pre-registration is required for this program. For information or to sign up, call Jamie Eathorne at 240-7867 or email LiveWell_BeWell@monroemi.org.
