Struggling Mother Receives Help From Coal Fund

The Greeneville Sun - 12/2/2017

When a working mother with two teenage boys had to replace her washing machine recently, it left no money for the power bill.

It came at a rough time for the mother. She lost her own mother this year and is struggling with the loss. On top of that, her mother helped her financially.

The family is in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and does not visit the Greeneville-Greene County Community Ministries Food Bank very often. When she does, she is in desperate need.

Having to replace her washing machine put her in desperate need. She needed help with the power bill or the electricity would be cut off. Because of contributions to the Coal Fund, Community Ministries could help the woman out by providing the funds for her electric bill.

The Coal Fund, which began its fundraising campaign on Thanksgiving, is sponsored by The Greeneville Sun and administered free of charge by Greeneville-Greene County Community Ministries. The fund was established in 1984 to provide needy residents of Greene County with financial assistance to help heat their homes.

Donations to the Coal Fund are welcome at any time. Those wishing to donate can do so with either cash or checks. Gifts can be delivered directly to the Community Ministries office at 107 N. Cutler St.between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays.

Checks should be made payable to The Coal Fund.

Contributions can also be mailed to The Coal Fund, P.O. Box 545, Greeneville,TN 37744.

Donations to the Coal Fund are deductible for federal income tax purposes and Community Ministries will provide receipts upon donor request.
