Father brought missing infant to BPD

Feb. 08--BLOOMINGTON -- Bloomington police said an infant girl who was taken without permission from her mother Wednesday morning has been found safe.

The baby's father, Darien Davis, brought the 2-week-old baby to the Bloomington Police Department on Wednesday afternoon after becoming aware of a social media post from the department about the abduction, according to Bloomington Police Officer Michael Gray.

Police had sent out an earlier media release and social media posts that an infant had been abducted and police were searching for the infant and the 28-year-old Davis.

That occurred after police were called to the 2200 block of Case Street about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. An investigation found that Davis took the infant and announced plans to leave the state. Police said he did not possess any child care supplies or food for the baby girl, who is being breastfed, said police.

The department sent out a follow-up message via social media before 1 p.m. Wednesday, stating the child had been located. The circumstances of the incident did not meet the criteria needed for an Amber Alert prior to the child's return, Gray said.
