DSS accepting applications for child care help

Wilson Daily Times - 3/28/2018

March 28--Officials say parents in need of child care in Wilson County may now have an additional resource to assist them in paying for it.

The Wilson County Department of Social Services is currently taking applications for child care subsidy assistance for eligible children ages 0 to 12.

The program is funded by a combination of state and federal dollars, officials said.

"Child care is essential for most working families," said Tracey Meeks, DSS child care and family enrichment team leader. "Our staff will be working with the parents and caregivers to provide subsidy services to as many eligible families as we can."

Applicants must be Wilson County residents and the parents or responsible adult of the child or children must be employed or participating in a combination of employment and education.

Families must be income-eligible and will have to pay a monthly parent fee based on their gross monthly countable income, DSS officials said.

Child care assistance, if approved, will be based around the parent's/responsible adult's work hours or work/school schedule.

Parents/responsible adults are given parental choice of a licensed child care center or licensed child care home.

For more information, call Wilson County DSS at 252-206-4177 or pick up a subsidy application from Wilson County DSS at 100 Gold St. NE from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
