Wilson County DSS earns family support award

Wilson Daily Times - 6/9/2018

June 09--The Wilson County Department of Social Services was recently recognized with the "Sticking Your Neck Out for the Kids Award" from the N.C. Parent Resource Center at Families in Action.

The award is given annually to an individual or an organization who has demonstrated a commitment to strengthening families, protecting children and making communities better.

"Wilson County DSS staff, under the leadership of Director Glenn Osborne, work diligently to support our children and families," said Anna Godwin, coordinator for the N.C. Parent Resource Center. "They are a true asset to Wilson County. Their hard work often goes unnoticed; however, a lack of their services would quickly be recognized. N.C. Parent Resource Center at Families in Action, Inc. truly appreciates their continued efforts to help ensure a safer and healthier community for our children."

DSS Director Glenn Osborne said the agency is humbled and honored to be the first social services department to receive the award.

"Our professional family truly is committed to helping children and families, and this award is a testament to the work we strive to do each and every day," he said.

Osborne cites the agency's accomplishments in child welfare, child support, child care and its parenting programs, many recognized as national best-practice award winners, as the foundation for this award.

"We continuously look for ways to improve the services we provide and to help families change their lives for the better," he said.

The award was presented to the agency at the N.C. Substance Misuse Conference in Raleigh on June 4.
