Health Notes: Orange Park's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit now streams video of babies to their parents

July 18--Orange Park Medical Center's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit recently began the use of NICVIEW, a bedside camera that shares a live-streamed image of a baby through a secure and private closed system viewable on any smart phone, tablet or computer. Orange Park Medical Center treats around 500 babies in their NICU each year.

MAYO SIMULATION CENTER ACCREDITED

The Mayo Clinic'sJ. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver Simulation Center in Jacksonville has earned accreditation in the area of teaching and education from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare in Washington, D.C. The Weaver center is one of only 100 in the world to be recognized as having the highest quality standards in health care simulation.

The Society for Simulation in Healthcare fosters the improvement and application of simulation-based modalities that promote better patient care and can improve patient outcomes. The accreditation was awarded after a peer-reviewed, customized evaluation of the center's processes and outcomes in teaching and education that included an application process and on-site review visit.

LAKEVIEW HEALTH NAMES NEW DIRECTOR OF NEUROPSYCHOLOGY

Lakeview Health, an addiction treatment facility, named Rebecca C. Villar as the director of neuropsychology.

In her new role at Lakeview Health, Villar will augment the psychological and neuropsychological testing already performed at the facilitiy and help improve the identification and treatment of dual diagnoses. She will provide thorough neuropsychological testing to objectively examine the potential cognitive and psychological impairments often seen in people who are addicted to alcohol and various drugs. The additional information provided through neuropsychological testing will allow Lakeview Health to develop better individualized treatment plans for patients.

STATE NAMES HEALTHY COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS

The Florida Department of Health has recognized 46 communities as 2018 Healthy Community Champions. In Northeast Florida, Putnam County and the towns of Interlachen and Pomona Park were honored.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES HONORED

The Florida Department of Health's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Section has named the recipients of the 2018 Excellence in EMS Awards.

Carl Shank of the St. Johns County Fire and Rescue Department was named the Marilyn Crook EMS Pioneer. Kerry Bachistra, a physician with the St. Johns County Fire and Rescue Department, was named the Raymond H. Alexander, MD, Medical Director of the Year.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department -- including Justin Morris, Roger Alexander, James Peacock, Joseph Rhoden, Cullen Lavasseur, Joshua McCall, Cole Stanford and Karla Stephens -- won the Emergency Medical Services for Children Star of Life Award.

MAYO CARDIOLOGIST NAMED TO AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION BOARD

Fred Kusumoto, a cardiologist and director of Heart Rhythm Services at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, has been named to the board of the American Heart Association -- First Coast Market. As part of the 15-member board, he will work on the organization's impact on the community through fundraising, advocacy, policy changes and community health initiatives. Board members serve for three two-year terms.
