Free vocational training program funded by the US Dept of Labor. Also can earn GED thru program if not high school graduate. Provides residential services including training, housing, meals, medical and dental care available from 7 to 24 months (length of training depends on individual - work at own pace.) Vocational offerings include: accounting clerk; auto body repair; bricklayer; carpentry; clerical occupations; nursing; welding and more. Clients receive $20-$50 spending money twice a month and a savings account called a readjustment allowance is also established for client. Upon successful completion of program, client will receive $1200 stipend. There are several Job Corps centers in three state area of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. The two Texas locations are Gary Job Corps Center (5 miles east of San Marcos) and North Texas Job Corps Center in McKinney.
