Company testing found listeria in White Castle frozen hamburgers. Here's what's recalled

Miami Herald - 12/7/2019

Dec. 7--White Castle burgers slid out of supermarket freezers and should be sliding out of home freezers nationwide after an enormous listeria-spurred recall pulled 331 lots of frozen hamburgers, cheeseburgers and Jalapeno cheese sliders.

The recall posted late Friday night to the FDA website.

Products affected in this recall: frozen hamburger sliders in packs of six or 16; frozen cheeseburger sliders in packs of six or 16; and frozen Jalapeno cheese sliders in packs of six, all with best by dates from "04 Aug 2020" to "17 Aug 2020." Listeria hits 1,600 Americans each year, killing around 260, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Most people suffer fever, headaches, stomachaches, diarrhea, stiffness and and nausea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths. The elderly, children under 5 and those with damaged immune systems are the most vulnerable to listeria's worst effects.

White Castle Frozen Foods says third party testing found listeria in a finished product. The company says it stopped shipping product from the facility and is testing to make sure there's no listeria in the facility that produced the sliders with listeria.
