White Castle recalls frozen burgers because of possible listeria contamination

Patriot-News - 12/9/2019

White Castle has recalled some of its frozen packs of hamburgers and cheeseburgers because they may contain listeria.

The products included in the recall have best by dates that range from Aug. 4, 2020, to Aug. 17, 2020. The products are six-packs of frozen hamburgers, cheeseburgers and jalapeno cheeseburgers and frozen 16-packs of hamburgers and cheeseburgers.

According to the company, the burgers may have been contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause infections in the young, frail and elderly. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. It also can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

According to the news release on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website, there have not been any illnesses reported.

The possible contamination was found through a sampling test by a third-party laboratory of its frozen sandwiches. The problem was found at one manufacturing facility. No products have since been shipped from that facility since.

Customers who want more information can call White Castle at 800-843-2728.
