Publix recalls Homestyle Beef Pot Roast mislabeled as meatloaf

South Florida Sun Sentinel - 10/10/2017

Oct. 10--A mislabeling glitch has forced Publix to recall Homestyle Beef Pot Roast because the packages may actually be meatloaf containing wheat, according to a notice posted on Publix.com.

The Lakeland-based supermarket chain issued a voluntary recall for the products, which were sold in refrigerated cases in the meat department in stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia, the company said.

There have been no reported cases of illness, the company said. People allergic to wheat can experience swelling, itching or irritation of the mouth or throat, hives, headaches or diarrhea, among other symptoms.

The recalled product, produced by RMH Foods/Sandridge Foods Corporation, is labeled with a UPC number 4141509080 and a use-by or freeze-by date stamped of Dec. 4, 2017, Publix said.

Customers may return the product for a refund.

"As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves," said spokeswoman Maria Brous, in a news release.

Customers with questions are urged to contact the chain's customer service line at 800-242-1227 or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration at 888-723-3366.
