7 people in Snohomish County sickened from salmonella

The Daily Herald - 12/2/2017

EVERETT — Seven people in Snohomish County have been sickened from a salmonella outbreak linked to eating precut watermelon, cantaloupe or mixes containing the fruits.

Two of the seven people were hospitalized.

State health officials say the illnesses in Snohomish County are part of an outbreak that has affected 18 people statewide.

Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. People experiencing any of these symptoms are advised to contact their health care provider. In severe cases, the infection can be fatal.

People who purchased the fruit products on or about Oct. 25 through Dec. 1 from QFC, Fred Meyer, Rosauers and Central Market in Washington and Oregon are urged not to eat the fruit and throw it away.
