BRIEF: Chainsaw slips, cut leg of South Pymatuning man

The Herald - 12/9/2017

Dec. 09--SOUTH PYMATUNING TOWNSHIP -- A township man was injured Monday afternoon when his chainsaw slipped and cut his leg.

South Pymatuning Township police Sgt. Richard Christoff said Wayne Hickman, 68, was using his chainsaw to carve artwork from fallen trees when the saw cut into his knee shortly before 2 p.m.

"It cut him pretty deep, down to the bone," Christoff said.

First responders put pressure on the wound to stop the bleeding and then sent him to the hospital in an ambulance. Hickman was still conscious as he was taken to a hospital, and is expected to recover, Christoff said.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends wearing a hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, heavy work gloves, cut-resistant legwear that extend from the waist to the top of the foot, and boots that cover the ankle.

Hickman, however, was not wearing chaps at the time of his injury, Christoff said.
