Monroe creamery recalls goat milk for possible E. coli

MONROE — St. John Creamery is recalling whole raw goat milk that may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.

The Monroe-based creamery announced the voluntary recall Thursday. Routine sampling by the state Department of Agriculture found the bacteria in raw goal milk dated June 17.

St. John Creamery raw goat milk showing "best by" dates of 6/17 to 6/21 should not be consumed and should be returned to where it was purchased for a refund. The milk was sold in half-gallon and one-pint containers at farm stores, directly to customers and at local retail stores.

As of Thursday afternoon, there were no known illnesses related to the recalled milk.

E. coli can cause diarrhea, cramps and bloody stool. In serious cases, an infection can cause kidney failure. Infants, children, pregnant women, older adults or people with compromised immune systems are most at risk.
