Breast cancer awareness Financial support available for breast cancer screening

Tribune-Democrat - 10/3/2018

Oct. 02--A state program funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a national mammogram voucher program by Susan G. Komen help pay for breast cancer screenings and treatment across Pennsylvania.

The HealthyWoman Program is a free breast and cervical cancer early detection program of the Pennsylvania Department of Health. It is funded, in part, by a grant the department receives from the CDC.

Services include clinical breast exams, mammograms, pelvic exams and pap tests and follow-up diagnostic tests after abnormal screenings.

Eligibility is based on income and family size.

The Susan G. Komen mammogram voucher program provides screening mammograms and breast diagnostic services for uninsured and underinsured women and men.

The Komen mammogram voucher program has no income, gender or age restrictions.

It covers screening mammograms and diagnostic services -- including breast ultrasounds, diagnostic mammograms and breast biopsies -- along with patient navigation help, follow-up care and referral services.

Both the HealthyWoman Program and mammogram voucher program are administered in Western Pennsylvania by Adagio Health of Pittsburgh.
