Until Dec. 11 Toys for Tots

Martin County Schools and the Williamston Lion's Club will be collecting new, unwrapped toys to help many Martin County children have a Merry Christmas. Drop-off boxes for new, unwrapped toys will be placed at local businesses around Martin County. All toys collected in Martin County will go to children in Martin County. Bear Grass Cub Scout Pack 218 will also be collecting toys for Toys for Tots during the Williamston and Bear Grass parades. If your business, organization or group is interested in helping collect toys, contact Clay Wagner with Martin County Schools at 252-809-4179. Toys will be collected through Dec. 11.

Until Dec. 14 Coat and Hat Drive

The Recidivism Reduction Services (RRS) program in Martin County is having a coat and hat drive until Dec. 14. RRS has teamed up with local businesses, churches and community programs to ensure every child in need in Martin County will receive a coat and hat this Christmas season. RRS is accepting new or slightly used coats, hats, gloves and scarves at 115 East Main St. (The Manning Building) Room 19. For more information, call Beverly Turner at 252-538-1244.

Until Dec. 23 Market

The Martin County Arts Council (MCAC) presents the Annual Christmas Market, a market of locally handcrafted arts and crafts for shoppers, during regular gallery hours at MCAC Flat Iron Building now until Saturday, Dec. 23.

Until Dec. 30 BLET Class

Martin Community College's next BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training) will be from 6 p.m. -10 p.m. beginning Jan. 3. Classes will be Monday -Friday, and every other weekend. This 620-hour course is mandated by the state for all certified law enforcement officers. It takes approximately 16 weeks to complete this course and concludes with a comprehensive written exam and skills testing. Successful completers may then sit for the state's BLET State Comprehensive Examination. Those interested in applying must complete a packet of information and forms no later than Dec. 30. Application packets may be downloaded from the MCC website or obtained in person or by mail from Wayland Mitchell at wayland.mitchell@martincc.edu or 252-789-0267.

Until Dec. 31 Annual Ornament

The Friends of the Old Martin County Courthouse's 2017 ornament is "Swamplawn Plantation" located near Oak City in the Palmyra community. The home on the plantation was built in 1851. The ornament is $25. Individuals can purchase this and past ornaments now until Dec. 31 from any board member or by calling 252-792-5243.

Dec. 4 -14 Class planned

Martin Community College (MCC) is offering GED Adult Basic Education & English as a Second Language from 6 p.m. -9 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Dec. 4 -Dec. 13 on MCC campus in Williamston; from 7:30 a.m. -2 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Dec. 4 -Dec. 13 at the Willow Acres Community Center in Williamston; and from 8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Dec. 4 -Dec. 14 at the Robersonville Senior Center. Dec. 5 MCC Class

Martin Community College's Division of Continuing Education is offering Vehicle Safety Inspection from 6 p.m. -10 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Dec. 5 and Dec. 7, on the Williamston campus. The fee for this class is $70. To register, contact Leslie Bond at 252-789-0248 or at leslie.bond@martincc.edu.

Dec. 7 Parade

The Williamston Christmas Parade will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7. Bring an unwrapped toy for Bear Grass Cub Scout Pack 218 to collect for Toys For Tots. All the toys collected stay in Martin County.

MCC CLASS

Martin Community College's Small Business Center (SBC) is offering the free class "Are You Covered Part 2 (Business Insurance)" from 6 p.m. -8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, on the Williamston campus. To register, contact Lena Jackson at 252-789-0201 or at lena.jackson@martincc.edu.

E.C.S.U. Meeting
