EX-OKCPS principal to lead Millwood school

Daily Oklahoman - 6/28/2018

June 28--Millwood Public Schools has added a former Oklahoma City Public Schools principal to its ranks.

Warren Pete will lead Millwood Arts Academy Middle School as its principal beginning July 23, Superintendent Cecilia Robinson-Woods said in a news release.

Pete succeeds Candice Hamilton-Greene, who left to become principal at Bodine Elementary in the Oklahoma City district.

For four years, Pete was principal of F.D. Moon Academy, where he was known for his colorful bow ties and frequently enlisted community leaders to mentor students and teach them the art of tying a necktie.

He resigned his position in May 2017. It was not clear whether Pete was forced out or faced reassignment. No reason was given for his departure.

During his time at Moon, Pete built an uplifting climate and culture that led to decreased suspensions and higher test scores, Robinson-Woods said.

"His relentless attitude and passion for achievement is what makes him a perfect fit for Millwood," she said. "Having such a great advocate for kids working with Millwood to build champions in the classroom, community and life is a win for our families and students!"

Pete currently serves as youth coordinator for a gang prevention program sponsored by the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Millwood Arts Academy serves about 250 students and offers numerous athletic and arts programs.

Pete was chosen by a 12-member panel, which included administration, teachers, parents, students and a board member.
