Young Lives Matter event is Saturday

News Enterprise - 6/8/2018

A Young Lives Matter Movement event is set for Saturday in Radcliff.

The event, Reaching out to the Next Generation, is meant to reach the next generation as well as future generations by teaching them responsibility and uplifting their hearts through love, motivation and inspiration, chairman Theo White said.

It is from 5 to 9 p.m. at Radcliff City Park, 1699 S. Dixie Blvd. There will be motivational speakers, artists performing, free food and drinks, games and more, White said.

He said the idea to host the event came from a youth conference he attended a few weeks ago. There, he said, attendees saw a vision to help find more outlets for youth to educate and help prevent gang violence, bullying, gun violence and more.

"We see a lot of youth who don't have anything to do," White said. "We just want to reach out to parents and youth."

In light of school shootings, the most recent at an Indiana middle school, White said organizers have discovered some youth in the area do not want to go to school because they are scared. He said he wants to let children and parents "know that we are here and actually working on trying to make something happen in Hardin County and go global."

White said the plan is for Saturday to be the first of many Young Lives Matter Movement events in the county.

"This is something we are going to continue," he said.

White said it's also time for parents "to wake up" and time for the community to "come together and work together."
