World War II veteran laid to rest after 74 years

Jun. 23--CONNEAUT -- A community came together to bring closure to a family who lost a son and soldier almost 75 years ago following a plane crash off the coast of Italy during World War II.

2nd Lt. James R. Lord was laid to rest next to his parents, William and Sara, on Saturday afternoon at Center Cemetery following a memorial service at Conneaut Township Park. Hundreds of people attended the service and more than 150 came to the graveside service.

The Rev. Tim Kraus spoke at both ceremonies honoring the pilot who was finally brought home thanks to the efforts of The Defense P.O.W./M.I.A. Accounting Agency.
