Norwalk students at Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School make Valentine's cards for local veterans

Feb. 12—NORWALK — U.S. Rep. Jim Himes came to Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School Monday to celebrate his annual Valentines for Vets program with students and staff.

The Silvermine students made Valentine's Day cards that the representative's office will deliver to local veterans. Himes led the students with local Navy veteran and Mayor Harry Rilling, who shared his experiences with students and took questions.

At then event, Himes met with Norwalk Public Schools Superintendent Alexandra Estrella and Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School Principal Yesenia Paredes.

Now in its 13th year, Himes' Valentines for Vets program saw about 60 schools participate across Connecticut's4th District, which encompasses most of Fairfield County and some of New Haven County. The students and staffs' valentines will be distributed to veterans just before the holiday, a statement from Norwalk Public Schools said.
