Weatherford Democrat - 3/18/2017

March 18--Howard Ratcliff, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, celebrated his 91st birthday Thursday at R&K Cafe in Hudson Oaks.

Ratcliff was a part of the Philippine Islands campaign. He joined the military in 1944 and got out in 1946.

"You can't hesitate," Ratcliff said of surviving the war and its battles. "I came out in pretty good shape."

After he got out of the military, he became a minister and considered it a pivotal moment in his life.

"I was 43 years old when I was saved. I went into ministry when I was 47," he said.

Family members and friends gathered to congratulate him and Ratcliff appreciated the turnout.

"There's a mixture of people in there," he said, during the interview. "If you're committed, faithful and obedient, (with) them three things, you can win," he said.
