UNI-CUE to host veterans fair in downtown Waterloo

Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier - 8/7/2017

Aug. 07--WATERLOO -- The University of Northern Iowa Center for Urban Education is having its first-ever Veterans Resource Event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at UNI-CUE, 800 Sycamore St.

Kathy Martin, director of the Educational Opportunity Center at UNI-CUE, said the center works with veterans and families.

"A big part of what we do is help them go through the consideration of furthering their education," she said. "We thought it would be the right thing to offer resources beyond the Educational Opportunities Center."

Veterans and their families will have an opportunity to meet with local service providers about veteran organizations. The general public also will be able to learn about veteran services. Housing, educational, legal, health and mental health information will be available.

Experts in the field of Veterans Administration benefits, legal counseling, money management, education and health care providers will be on hand.

Additionally, representatives from U.S. Sens. Charles Grassley and Joni Ernst's offices will be available at 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. for a question-and-answer session. Staff from U.S. Rep. Rod Blum's office also is expected to be on hand.

The event is sponsored by UNI-CUE EOC, Black Hawk County Veterans Affairs, University of Northern Iowa Military & Veteran Student Services and Hawkeye Community College Veterans Services.
