PORTSMOUTH Sununu to nominate Mikolaities as NH adjutant general

CONCORD - Gov. Chris Sununu on Tuesday announced he will nominate Col. David J. Mikolaities of Portsmouth to serve as the state's next adjutant general.

The nomination will be made at the Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 23.

"As the senior ranking officer in the New Hampshire National Guard, Col. David Mikolaities will serve as adjutant general of the state of New Hampshire with honor and distinction," Sununu said. "A decorated combat veteran, there is no doubt that Col. Mikolaities is an unwavering advocate for soldiers, airmen, and veterans and I am excited to work alongside him as he leads New Hampshire'sNational Guard."

Mikolaities is a member of the N.H. Army National Guard and currently serves as the construction and facilities management officer. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Webster University and the U.S. Army College, Mikolaities was born in Manchester and lives in Portsmouth with his wife Sandy and their three children, Skyler, Adam and Sierra.

"I am truly humbled by Gov. Sununu's nomination," Mikolaities said. "The responsibilities of this office are immense and it will be both an honor and privilege to serve alongside our state's finest citizen soldiers."

His distinguished career includes multiple tours in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Mikolaities is an Airborne, Ranger, Special Forces qualified officer who has received the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman's Badge among his many awards and decorations.

"As chair of Gov. Sununu'sAdjutant General Selection Commission, I can say with certainty that New Hampshire can count on Col. Mikolaities to protect, fight and advocate for the New Hampshire National Guard and support New Hampshire's veterans and their families," said Dave Kenney, chairman of the State Veterans Advisory Committee.

Following the nomination Wednesday, a confirmation vote will likely take place at the Sept. 13Executive Council meeting. Sununu chose Mikolaities after his appointed selection committee narrowed the applicant field to its top three recommendations.
