Learning more about dementia

Jan. 9--The Virtual Dementia Tour, sponsored by Covenant Care and the Alzheimer's Project, will be held 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. ETJan. 30 at Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf in Port St. Joe.

Dementias, such as Alzheimer's disease, can cause individuals to lose language and memory skills creating communication problems, though other skill areas may be less impacted, according to information about the program.

The Virtual Dementia Tour is a teaching tool that simulates the dementia experience.

The hands-on class teaches how to connect to an individuals retained skills to improve communication and cooperation.

Caregivers gain a greater understanding of the realities of living with dementia.

This unique, interactive program has been shown to improve communication and care outcomes.

A positive environment for those with dementia only comes with walking in their shoes, according to the press release for the program.

Refreshments will be provided.
