Coronavirus outbreaks continue to slow down at Maryland nursing homes, as active cases decline by nearly 20%

Baltimore Sun - 6/24/2020

Coronavirus outbreaks at Maryland nursing homes and assisted living centers continue to slow, with the number of active COVID-19 cases down by 20% and the death rate among the facilities’ residents slowing significantly over the past week.

There are about 6,800 active cases of COVID-19 among the facilities’ residents and staff, a decline of 19.6% since June 17.

Maryland health officials said Wednesday the facilities reported 50 deaths over the past week. That was by far the fewest since the state began reporting that data in late April, when elder care centers accounted for as many as 300 deaths a week.

Cumulatively, the facilities account for nearly two-thirds of the nearly 3,000 COVID-19 deaths reported in the state, reporting 1,880 casualties as of Wednesday.
