The Newton Kansan - 7/8/2020

Jul. 7--Tuesday Lynette Redington, director fo the Harvey County Health Department, announced that a new case of COVID-19 had been found in Harvey County that led to a significant testing effort.

A worker at Schowalter Villa in Hesston had tested positive for COVID-19. That led to 90 people being tested. Results were expected back from the state lab on Tuesday or Wednesday.

To date, 53 cases have been identified in the county with 15 active cases and in isolation.

"We have a large number of contacts who are quarantined. ... We are constantly getting in contact with individuals in our communities," Redington said.

As of Tuesday, none of the active cases in Harvey County were hospitalized. To date, there have been five hospitalizations in the county.

Contract tracing has been taxing the Health Department in the last couple of weeks, leading Redington to begin discussion of hiring extra help.

"The work int he contract tracing has increased. I will be talking to [administration] this afternoon about getting some temporary staff to assist with that," Redington said Tuesday.

As of Tuesday, 1,864 tests had been given in Harvey County -- an increase of 183 in the last week.

"That is a lower than we had the week prior. Testing capacity is still available and folks are able to get tested," Redington said.
