Buffalo News - 10/15/2020
Oct. 15--A sudden surge of Covid-19 cases, including two deaths, has prompted the Allegany County Department of Health to issue an advisory about a cluster of the virus at Houghton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Houghton.
Health officials reported that 27 residents and three staff members have tested positive for the disease.
Two of the residents died, an 86-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man.
Tyler Shaw, the county's deputy public health director, said that the nursing home has helped trace people who had come in contact with the 30 Covid patients and has been assisting the state Department of Health in investigating the outbreak.
Shaw said that the county health department will notify all contacts by phone to exchange information and advise them on quarantining and symptoms.
Relatives of residents at the nursing home who want information about them can call there at 585-567-2207.
The Allegany County Department of Health will answer general Covid-19 questions at 585-268-9250.
