Sauk Valley reports 115 new COVID-19 cases Friday, outbreak at Dixon nursing home

The Sauk Valley reported 115 new coronavirus cases and an additional death in Carroll County Friday, as well as an outbreak at a Dixon nursing home.

The Lee County Unified Leadership said an outbreak of COVID-19 has hit Dixon Rehab and Healthcare Center, but the number of cases was not included in the Friday count.

There are 20 new cases in Lee County, involving one person under 10, three teens, six people in their 20s, two in their 30s, three in their 40s, one in their 50s, three in their 60s and one in their 80s.

The Whiteside County Health Department announced 58 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, the largest single-day increase the county has seen. The county also had 24 additional recoveries.

The new cases involve seven people under 20, six in their 20s, eight in their 30s, five in their 40s, five in their 50s, 11 in their 60s, 11 in their 70s and five over the age of 80.

Ogle County had 23 new cases Friday, as well as 31 additional recoveries.

Carroll County announced 14 new cases Friday. Carroll County also had an additional COVID-related death of a person over the age of 90. Carroll County's new cases involve one child, two people in their 20s, two in their 30s, two in their 40s, one in their 50s, three in their 60s, one in their 70s and two in their 80s

Whiteside County has had 1,387 cases and 25 COVID-related deaths. Lee County has had 676 cases, 480 recoveries and one death. Ogle County has had 1,179 cases, 953 recoveries and seven deaths. Carroll County has had 400 cases, 316 recoveries and 14 deaths.

The North region (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) has seen seven days of positivity increases and four days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate decreased slightly to 11.7%, still the highest rate of any of the state's 11 regions. Currently, 36% of medical/surgical beds are available and 41% of ICU beds.

The North region (Region 1) is under additional COVID-19 mitigation measures from the IDPH as of Saturday, Oct. 3, and added stricter mitigations, beginning Sunday. To return to the standard Phase 4 restrictions, the region will need to maintain an average positivity rate of less than or equal to 6.5% over a 14-day period.

The region's counties that are reporting the highest positivity rates are Boone (14.1%), Winnebago (13%), and Whiteside (11.6%).

DeKalb County's positivity rate decreased from 9.3% to 9.2%.

Illinois on Friday announced 3,874 new cases and 31 deaths. There have been 364,033 cases and 9,418 deaths statewide.

Sterling has had 5,675 tests and 455 cases. Rock Falls has had 3,012 tests and 299 cases. Dixon has had 7,062 tests and 435 cases. Rochelle has had 4,785 tests and 569 cases.
