Disability advocate Hallie Hovey-Murray to speak at Mitchell

The Day - 2/22/2020

Feb. 22--NEW LONDON -- Disability advocate and author Hallie Hovey-Murray will be giving a talk, which is free and open to the public, in The Red Barn at Mitchell College on March 11 at 7 p.m.

A recent graduate of William & Mary Law School in Virginia, Hovey-Murray wrote the book "Overcoming Expectations" about the low expectations placed on her as someone on the autism spectrum. She also founded the One in 68 Foundation, a nonprofit that helps people on the spectrum transition from high school to college.

A news release from Mitchell College said Hovey-Murray will talk about the need for comprehensive education reform for students with different abilities, why their employment rate remains so low and how people can create more inclusive environments on campuses and in the workplace.

This talk is part of Mitchell's Leske Family Speakers Series.
