Deputies find missing boy, play with him until mother arrives

The Monroe News - 10/19/2021

Oct. 19—A 10-year-old autistic boy who was reported missing by his mother was found walking around in his Lego-branded pajamas Saturday morning in Monroe Township.

The boy was reported missing about 10:44 a.m. and was found soon afterward by two sheriff's deputies in the area of E. Dunbar Rd. and Maplewood St., a report from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said. With temperatures hovering in the low 50s, the deputies gave him a knit cap and gloves to stay warm since he was not wearing a coat. The deputies notified the mother that he was found and placed a blanket on the ground and played with him until she arrived about 11:30 to pick him up, the report said. The mother, 40, told deputies that the boy was sleeping with his older brother when he left the home. The boy had a history of sneaking out of the home when left unattended for a short period, she said.

Child Protective Services was contacted about the incident.

Disturbance at Dundee motel probed

Deputies investigated a report of a man and woman yelling at each other and creating a disturbance at the Quality Inn in Dundee Saturday morning.

A Milan man staying down the hallway called 911 to report the disturbance about 9 a.m. When a deputy arrived, he found the woman, 28, in her pajamas and wearing a T-shirt, but no shoes, outside on the sidewalk. When the deputy questioned her what she was doing, the woman became irate and started screaming at the officer, so he placed her in handcuffs, a deputy's report said. She would not answer any questions and continued to yell at him and call him vulgar names. She told the deputy she just had a child born recently and was dealing with post-partum issues.

A Dundee Police officer arrived and contacted the 21-year-old male who had been with her at the motel and left to come and get her and she was released into his custody. The staff agreed to allow the man and woman to stay as long as they didn't create another disturbance, the report said.

A 63-year-old Toledo man was arrested after a deputy found crack cocaine in the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche he was driving southbound on S. Telegraph Rd. (US-24) near Smith Rd. in Temperance early Sunday morning.

The vehicle was stopped about 4:20 a.m. in front of the Bedford Inn, 6444 S. Telegraph, with a female passenger inside the car. The deputy found a silver steel vial containing crack cocaine, a crack pipe burnt at both ends and a clear plastic bag with suspected narcotics inside, a deputy's report said. A charge of possession of crack cocaine is being sought against the man, the report said. The woman, 31, was released at the scene.

Attempted home invasion reported

A mother and her two daughters were awakened by someone who attempted to break into their Monroe Township home early Sunday morning.

The incident happened in the 500 block of Blue Spruce Trail in the Oakwood Estates Mobile Home Park, a deputy's report said. The girls told deputies they were awakened about 5 a.m. by their dog barking at a window where they were sleeping. Investigators collected hand prints of the window and sent them to a Michigan State Police crime lab for analysis.
