More charges added to Fall Creek rape case

Register-Guard - 1/17/2020

Additional rape charges have been filed against a 32-year-old Lane County man.

Zebulon Jedidiah Gilbert, of Fall Creek, is charged with first-degree rape and four counts of third-degree rape, involving two child victims allegedly sexually abused between 2011 and 2013.

The charges are considered to have been committed under aggravated circumstances because Gilbert was on post-prison supervision or probation when the crimes were committed and because of his "persistent involvement" in similar crimes, according to court documents.

Gilbert pleaded not guilty to the charges. His trial is currently scheduled for March 10.

Gilbert initially was arrested in this case by the Lane County Sheriff's Office in June and charged with two counts of third-degree rape. The charges involved two child victims, and the sexual abuse allegedly occurred in 2012.

Gilbert pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released from the Lane County Jail on bail in July.

On Wednesday, however, Gilbert was rearrested and arraigned Thursday on the additional charges against him.

First-degree rape is a Measure 11 offense that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of eight years, four months if convicted.
