Lexington Herald-Leader - 1/17/2020

Jan. 17--A former 18-year-old bus monitor has been charged with sexual abuse by Lexington Police after he allegedly inappropriately touched a student.

Lexington Police said Thursday Brandon Brown, 18, has been charged with sexual abuse for an incident that happened on a school bus on Nov. 12. According to WKYT, the arrest citation says Brown and the student touched each other's private parts "while on the school bus he monitored."

WKYT is the Lexington Herald-Leader's reporting partner.

A spokeswoman for the Lexington Police Department said the victim was 16. Brown worked for the Fayette County Public School system.

A spokeswoman for Fayette County Public Schools said Brown was fired as soon as the incident was reported. Brown was working as a substitute bus monitor at the time of the incident.

"His employment with the district ended the day we received the report," said Lisa Deffendall, a spokeswoman for the schools. "All employees must go through background checks including child abuse and neglect reports. There is absolutely no tolerance for the reported conduct of the employee in this incident and immediate action is taken when such a report is received."
