Longmont man sentenced to sex offender probation after assaulting young girl

Daily Times-Call - 1/25/2020

Jan. 25--A Longmont man who confessed to police he had sexual contact with a young girl was sentenced Friday in Boulder County court.

Marcos Zavala

Marcos Villafuerte Zavala , 20, pleaded guilty Aug. 23 to attempted sex assault on a child, according to online court records. A condition of the plea was dismissing initial charges against Zavala of attempted aggravated sex assault on a child and second-degree assault causing serious bodily harm.

Zavala had been scheduled for a four-day trial in October, but that was vacated when he accepted the plea.

Boulder District Court Judge Bruce Langer sentenced Zavala to serve 10 years of sex offender intensive supervision probation, which includes numerous obligations that if violated can lead to potential prison time, according to the Colorado Legal Defense Group's website.

Leading up to his arrest, an 8-year-old girl reported Zavala had tried to make her touch him while at a residence, according to an arrest affidavit. She also reported the abuse had occurred when she was 6, 7 and 8 years old.

The girl reported the situation to an employee with Blue Sky Bridge, a Boulder agency that assists police and family with child abuse investigations, the affidavit said. The girl also said once, when she was sleeping alone, she awoke to Zavala touching her.

Zavala admitted to having sexual contact with the victim, according to the affidavit. He confessed to police he had once touched her while she was in bed, according to the affidavit, and he asked her to perform oral sex.
