Central Pa. rape suspect in critical condition after Indiana motorcycle crash: police

A 27-year-old Warwick Township man charged with rape who police said was “an extreme flight risk and a potential threat to others” was discovered in Indiana last weekend with critical injuries from a motorcycle crash.

Fayette, Indiana police identified William J. Phillips while investigating a crash that happened over the Aug. 7 weekend, according to the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department.

Phillips was critically injured in the crash and remains hospitalized in Indiana, police said. It’s unclear when he will be well enough to be extradited back to central Pennsylvania.

Northern Lancaster County police said they responded to a domestic dispute July 23 around 4:04 a.m. and found a woman in need of medical attention.

The woman told police Phillips strangled her and “caused other injuries and an assault during the course of his conduct which resulted in criminal charges,” police said.

Phillips was charged with one count of rape, one count of strangulation, two counts of endangering the welfare of children, two counts of endangering the welfare of children, one count of simple assault, domestic violence, and one count of stalking.
