Traffic stop alerts Akron police to alleged domestic incident

Akron Beacon Journal - 11/9/2020

Akron police were alerted to a domestic violence situation early Saturday morning after a trooper pulled over a friend of the victim, who was racing to the scene after receiving a frantic text message for help.

Officers arrested Stephen McAdory, 29, on a felony domestic violence charge, as well as misdemeanor charges of menacing and violation of a protection order. Police said an investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.

Police responded to the East Dalton Street home around 4:30 a.m. Saturday after the Ohio State Highway Patrol requested that officers check the welfare of a woman there.

Police said officers had been called to the home an hour earlier but found the home was quiet and there was no response at the door.

When officers arrived for the second call, they knocked on the door for several minutes. This time, a 29-year-old woman exited the home visibly distraught.

The victim told officers that McAdory, whom she has a child in common with, came to her home the evening prior, despite having a protection order prohibiting him from doing so. During the next several hours, the victim reported being assaulted and prevented from leaving. The victim had visible injuries that were considered minor.

During the incident, the victim sent several text messages to friends, one of whom was stopped by a trooper while reportedly rushing to her friend's aid.

McAdory pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday and was released on a $5,000 bond.
