Woody Allen and Mia Farrow’s perilous pairing is focus of new HBO docuseries with family interviews

The New York Daily News - 2/5/2021

Woody Allen and Mia Farrow’s ill-fated union is the subject of a new HBO docuseries promising the “private story” behind the sensational headlines and allegations of child sex abuse.

The new four-part series, titled “Allen v. Farrow,” will include home movie footage, newly excavated audiotapes and intimate interviews with family members Mia, Dylan and Ronan Farrow as well as friend Carly Simon and prosecutor Frank Maco, HBO said Friday.

Dylan Farrow, 35, is the daughter Allen allegedly abused as a child, before his relationship with Mia Farrow’s adult daughter, Soon-Yi, who became his wife in 1997.

Allen, 85, has denied he sexually abused Dylan when she was 7 years old.

The molestation allegations first surfaced in 1992, and Dylan reiterated them in an open letter in 2014 and through subsequent interviews and her social media.

Helmed by investigative filmmakers Kirby Dick, Amy Ziering and Amy Herdy, the new documentary project will explore the former Hollywood power couple’s “charmed courtship,” explosive breakup and subsequent custody trial.

“Once celebrated for their on and off-screen partnership, Farrow and Allen’s lives were irrevocably fractured and their sprawling family torn apart with the public disclosure of the abuse allegations and the vitriolic disputes that followed,” a press release for the new series reads.

The new project promises to examine “the shattering effects of trauma on a family,” HBO said.

“Allen v. Farrow” is set to debut Feb. 21 at 9 p.m. on HBO with subsequent streaming on HBO Max.

Dick and Ziering previously released the 2020 documentary “On the Record,” a detailed look at the sex abuse allegations levied against Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons.

Simmons, 63, has denied the claims.
