Off-duty Montgomery officer charged with misdemeanor domestic violence

Montgomery police placed one of their own on administrative leave after he was charged with two counts of third-degree domestic violence.

Capt. Saba Coleman said 27-year-old Zavarius Jones was off duty at the time of the incident that led to the two charges.

Coleman gave no details about the incident, but said the investigation into Jones began Sunday after the Municipal Court Magistrate's Office notified MPD of the Class A misdemeanor charges.

Jones, a patrol officer who joined the police department last year, was immediately relieved of duty, Coleman said.

No arrest mugshot was immediately available for Jones as people charged with misdemeanors are processed through the city jail instead of the county jail.
