Former New Cumberland fire policeman gets 3 to 10 years in prison for molesting junior firefighter

Patriot-News - 2/17/2021

A former fire police officer for the New Cumberland Fire Department has been sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenage boy who was a junior firefighter.

Cumberland County Judge Jessica E. Brewbaker imposed that punishment four months after James W. Ainsworth III, 26, of New Oxford, pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated indecent assault of someone under 16.

New Cumberland police arrested Ainsworth in October 2019. He was accused of performing sex acts with the boy at his home in 2017 and of requesting nude photos of the teen.

Police said they began investigating after being alerted by fire company officials that the boy had accused Ainsworth of sexual abuse.
