Three killed Saturday in Larned domestic violence incident

Jan. 10—LARNED — The Pawnee County Attorney reported Sunday afternoon that a domestic violence incident on Saturday in Larned resulted in the deaths of three people, including a child.

County Attorney Douglas W. McNett stated those who died included the suspect.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation identified the dead as Shala M. Smith, 44, Carver A. Smith, 12, and Jon B. Smith, 44, all of Larned, and stated that each died from gunshot wounds.

The Larned Police Department received a 911 call just after 9 p.m. Saturday from a man who discovered the three dead inside a residence at 524 Park Street, the KBI stated.

"The incident was discovered when a friend stopped by to check on the family," McNett stated.

Police called the KBI in almost immediately to assist in the investigation.

"No threat to the public is believed to exist related to this incident," the KBI release stated. "Additional details will be released after the autopsies are completed."
