SLO County man sentenced to 28 years to life in prison for sexually abusing a child

Jan. 19—An Atascadero man was sentenced to 28 years to life in state prison Tuesday for sexually abusing a child under 10, according to a news release from the District Attorney's Office.

Fred Raymond Knight Jr., 46, was found guilty on Nov. 16, 2021, of committing lewd acts and sodomy on a child under the age of 10.

The crime took place in Atascadero on Aug. 20, 2018, against a 6-year-old child. He previously served three years in state prison after being convicted of committing a lewd act on a child in a separate case in 2011.

Knight Jr. was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

The Atascadero Police Department investigated the case with the the District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Danielle Baker.
