Wood River man fails to register as sex offender

Aug. 11—EDWARDSVILLE — A Wood River man was charged Tuesday for failure to register as a sex offender, six days before he is set to go to trial on the same charge file in 2020.

Brandon C. Edwards, 29, with a last known address in Wood River, was charged Aug. 9 with unlawful failure to register as a sex offender (second subsequent offense), a Class 2 felony.

The case was presented by the Wood River Police Department.

According to court documents, on Aug. 2 Edwards allegedly failed to register his address with the Wood River Police Department, and provided an address on Haller Avenue as his registered address when he "did not reside there."

He has two prior convictions for unlawful failure to register as a sex offender out of Madison County, in 2013 and 2015.

According to the Illinois State Police sex offender database, he was convicted of criminal sexual abuse/victim 13-17. The database shows the victim was 14 and Edwards 18 at the time of the offense.

He also has a pending case for failure to register from charges filed in 2020. According to court records a trial date has been set for Aug. 15.

Bail was set at $40,000.

Other felony charges filed Aug. 9 include:

—Douglas A. Peterson Jr., 42, of Collinsville, was charged with unlawful violation of an order of protection (second subsequent offense), a Class 4 felony. The case was presented by the Collinsville Police Department. According to court documents, on June 13 Peterson allegedly violated a valid order of protection by contacting a protected person via a cell phone. He has a 2011 conviction for domestic battery out of Madison County. Bail was set at $50,000.

—Earlonda D. Perkins, 43, listed as homeless out of Godfrey, was charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony. The case was presented by the Madison County Sheriff's Department. According to court documents, on Aug. 8 Perkins allegedly struck a Madison County Transit employee in the face with her fist. Bail was set at $20,000.
