Mount Vernon man accused of burglary, kidnapping and attempted sexual abuse

Dec. 5—MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man was arrested this weekend on charges that he locked a woman in her own home at knife point and attempted to sexually assault her.

Gabriel Conner Goslin, 19, is charged in Linn County court with first-degree burglary and second-degree kidnapping, both felonies. He's also charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor.

According to a criminal complaint, Goslin approached the woman outside her residence in Mount Vernon on Nov. 9. He knew the woman, but only as a past acquaintance.

He brandished a knife and took the woman's house keys, then forced her inside the home and confined her there. He attempted to sexually assault her, but she was able to fight him off, the complaint states.

A warrant for Goslin's arrest was issued on Nov. 21, and he was arrested Friday. An order of protection was filed on behalf of the victim.

Goslin is currently facing several additional charges in Linn County court related to previous incidents. On Nov. 10, police responded to a disturbance in Lisbon and found Goslin, who was suicidal and admitted to having marijuana. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with official acts, all misdemeanors, according to a criminal complaint.

On Nov. 11, he hit and spit on two security officers who were attempting to restrain him at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, a complaint states. He was charged with two counts of misdemeanor assault. He reportedly told police that he knew it was assault but that he didn't care.

On Nov. 13, he admitted to shooting a crossbow into his father's front door and making threats against his father's life, according to a criminal complaint. In that incident he's facing misdemeanor charges of first-degree harassment and assault with a dangerous weapon.

On Nov. 14, a request for a civil protection order was also filed against Goslin by a Lisbon woman on behalf of her 17-year-old daughter. The protection order request states that Goslin verbally, mentally and emotionally abused the teen, with whom he had been in an intimate relationship, for the past 7 months, and that on Nov. 10 he threatened to find and hurt her.

Goslin had his initial appearance on the burglary and kidnapping charges Saturday, and has already begun the court process for the other charges. He's being held in the Linn County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
