Cherokee Bluff High girls' soccer coach faces child molestation charges

The Gainesville Times - 5/26/2023

May 26—The girls' soccer coach at Cherokee Bluff High School was arrested Friday on charges of child molestation, according to Hall County Schools and the Flowery Branch Police Department.

Calvin Cook, 37, turned himself in at the Hall County Jail around 11 a.m., authorities said.

Flowery Branch Police Department said it received a report on April 24 that Cook "molested a child under the age of 10 while the child was spending the night at his family's home" in April 2021.

"We prefer not to release any identifiers concerning the child," Flowery Branch Police spokesman Todd Templeton said when asked if the child was a boy or girl. "The victim was a friend of the family and not one of Cook's students."

Hall County Schools spokesman Stan Lewis said Cook was placed on paid leave the same day of the report.

He said Cook has been with the Hall County Schools since Aug. 1, 2018. He is the head girls' soccer coach at Cherokee Bluff High and teaches physical education at Cherokee Bluff Middle. Cherokee Bluff was ranked No. 4 in the state this year in soccer before falling to Lovett in the state playoffs in April.

"The Hall County School District takes these charges seriously and will deal with the situation accordingly," Lewis said in a news release.
