Police: Scranton man molested two preteen girls in Carbondale

Times-Tribune - 6/1/2023

May 31—A district judge arraigned a Scranton man Wednesday who surrendered on felony counts he molested two preteen girls in Carbondale, court records show.

Magisterial District Judge Joanne Price Corbett remanded 38-year-old Robert Siebecker to jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. Corbett scheduled a preliminary hearing June 14 on two counts each of indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors.

The Times-Tribune does not identify victims of sexual assault.

Attempts to reach Siebecker's attorney, identified as William Thompson in court records, were unsuccessful.

Carbondale Detective Tim Mackrell began investigating in March when he received a ChildLine report of suspected abuse, according to a criminal complaint.

The two girls, ages 10 and 11, were interviewed in April at the Children's Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

According to a police affidavit, the 11-year-old disclosed Siebecker touched her genitals, buttocks and chest. He showed her pornography, kissed her buttocks and put money on his genitals, promising she could keep it if she could grab it, police said.

The 10-year-old girl, in a separate interview, described how Siebecker touched her chest and touched his tongue to hers.

A relative of the victims spoke with Siebecker twice during recorded phone calls after the interviews.

In one call, he acknowledged the 11-year-old girl had her foot on his genitals but blamed her for initiating the contact and said he told her to stop, according to Mackrell's affidavit.

In another call, Siebecker first denied he and the girl touched tongues but then added if it did happen, it was an accident and he was sorry.

Siebecker is jailed in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility because a family member works at Lackawanna County Prison.
