Sponge-rubber, audible ball with which children with visual and other disabilities can play various ball games. It is lightweight, foam-rubber and equipped with an inserted 9 volt battery powered sounding device which emits a pulsating beeping signal (2900 Hz, 68 to 80 decibels). Ball is seven inches in diameter and fully equipped weighs one pound. The Sonalert sound unit is identical to one used in the Cricket sounding device (see separate entry) except that the Audie ball is activated by squeezing the ball with the hands or by pressing it against the body. The button operated sounding module within the ball is pressed to the "off" position in a similar manner. Blind children avoid injury when playing since it is made of rubber. The ball is cut open to fit the Sonalert sound unit into the cavity and is resealed with contact cement. To change the battery, simply recut ball at same seam, put in battery and cement. Instruction sheet is included.
