The Kickstart Walking System is an exoskeletal orthosis and gait trainer designed for use by individuals with lower extremity or walking disabilities or neurological injuries or disabilities such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, or muscular dystrophy. Worn over clothing, this custom-fabricated orthosis helps the user regain his or her ability to walk by providing a boost of energy to help swing the leg forward at each step, reinforcing correct walking motions so the user's legs advance smoothly and naturally. The Kickstart promotes proper performance and increased endurance during rehabilitation and physical therapy, and it helps the user regain the ability and endurance to walk and stand as part of daily living activities. This kinetic orthosis utilizes spring tension to capture energy and provide walking assistance to the user. At the beginning of a step, a spring stretches to store energy. This energy is later released to help lift the leg and propel the user forward, allowing the user to swing through each step. Assistance is delivered with the initiation of hip flexion at toe off and through the swing phase of gait. Energy is stored during the stance phase and released at toe off to provide a natural stride. WEIGHT: 5 pounds. WARRANTY: 30 day risk-free trial for new users.
