KCDC offers free child care to Stormont Vail employees

Topeka Capital Journal - 10/6/2020

In an effort to get children back inside of the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center, the children’s museum has partnered with Stormont Vail Hospital to offer free child care to the hospital’s employees.

The children’s museum will begin offering the child care services Thursday, according to a news release Monday from KCDC’s director of marketing and development Laura Burton.

KCDC’s inside play area has been closed since March while the outdoor area reopened in July and will remain open to the public for timed, ticketed entry.

“This partnership gets children in the building again, joyfully playing, learning and having fun,” said Dene’ Mosier, KCDC’s president and CEO. “As health care workers care for us, we will provide the perfect place for their children by providing a safe and enriching place for playful learning. In this building, every experience is designed to help young learners thrive. While we continue to work towards reopening our indoor space safely to the public, we are excited Stormont Vail can offer this safe experience for a consistent group of children of their staff.”

Stormont Vail’s senior vice president and chief experience officer Darlene Stone said in a statement the partnership will allow the hospital’s staff to focus on providing care to its patients while their children are cared for in a safe environment.

The child care services will be staffed by Stormont Vail employees, Burton said.

Burton added the program is temporary and the children’s museum is still working toward reopening its indoor play area to the public.
