Having trouble finding affordable child care? We'd like to hear from you

San Diego Union-Tribune - 7/29/2022

It's no secret that child care is expensive and hard to find. Child care in San Diego County on average costs anywhere from $12,900 to $19,500 a year for children under 5 years old, depending on the type of provider. And that's simply not affordable for a lot of families.

I'm writing about what families do when they can't find affordable child care — and that's where I can use your help.

I'm looking for parents or guardians living anywhere in California who have had trouble finding affordable child care and who are willing to share with me how that has impacted their lives.

Are you in need of child care but concerned you won't be able to afford it? Have you cut back on your work hours or passed up a job opportunity or promotion because you had to stay home to watch your kids? Have you found it difficult to find care that works for your schedule and preferences? Or have you found a different solution to child care, like asking a family member to take care of your kids or bringing your kids to work with you?

If you've found yourself in any situation like this, or if you just want to share your thoughts about child care, I'd love to hear from you. Please reach out to me at kristen.taketa@sduniontribune.com or give me a call at (619) 854-8164. Or you can fill out the form below.
