Allen County Commissioners dismiss Child Services Board President

Lima News - 7/28/2021

Jul. 29—LIMA — The Allen County Board of Commissioners moved to dismiss the President of the Allen County Children Services Board on Wednesday morning. All three commissioners voted to remove Nadia Lampton due to her conduct on social media, which was deemed inappropriate. All ACCS board members are appointed to their positions by the Allen County Commissioners.

"The appointments that we make to these boards, we tell them in interviews, and we can't stress it enough that every board member that serves in this county through an appointment is an extension of the three of us," said Commissioner Beth Seibert. "That's why when this came to our attention, we had to take an action of consideration that brought us to today."

The social media communication in question was a Facebook post by Lampton, who was raising concerns about a youth leader at Shawnee United Methodist Church, accusing them of inappropriate communication with a minor. The post has since been deleted.

"The purpose of the meeting today and the action taken by this board is our agreement that said board member was in direct conflict to the mission and vision of the Allen County Children's Services Agency," Commissioner Cory Noonan said.

Noonan cited the mission statement of the agency, saying that it is its job to investigate incidents like the one in question, not through a public forum like Facebook.

"At the core of it all, our agency is focused on one thing: to protect the children of Allen County by supporting and strengthening families in partnership with the community," its mission statement reads. "To this end, we, Children Services are mandated by law and committed to investigating all reports of child abuse, neglect and dependency."
