President Biden arrives in Connecticut and heads to Hartford to pitch ‘build back better’ and child care

Hartford Courant - 10/15/2021

President Joe Biden has arrived in Connecticut to pitch his massive infrastructure spending bill and to offer congratulations at a building dedication at UConn.

The president touched down at Bradley International Airport around 12:30 p.m. and headed to Hartford, where officials hope to still win funding for some of the state’s costliest infrastructure proposals — a massive rebuild of the I-84 and I-91 interchange and a radical expansion of commuter rail between New York and Boston.

President Biden was greeted on the tarmac by Col. Stephen R. Gwinn, 103rd Airlift Wing Commander, with a salute and a smile. The president removed his black mask, though not his sunglasses, and tapped the colonel on his arm before turning to board Marine 1, which soon left for Brainard Airport in Hartford.

The president’s visit — his second trip to Connecticut this year — highlights the state’s influence in the Biden administration. Gov. Ned Lamont and former U.S. Sen Chris Dodd were early and unwavering supporters of Biden when he was running for president.

In Hartford, Biden will visit a child development center in Hartford to promote his “build back better” agenda and the importance of investing in child care. Congress is now debating the president’s massive infrastructure and pandemic recovery package.

After the visit to the child development center, Biden will travel to Storrs, where he will be welcomed by Dodd, his old longtime colleague and close friend, Chris Dodd, at the dedication of the Dodd Center for Human Rights on campus.
