Family services group holding events to strengthen bond between children and parents

Sep. 6—The Andover Hebron Marlborough Youth and Family Services will help strengthen the bonds between parents and children this fall. Several sessions and workshops are planned for September and October.

The Play and Learn Group, for children 5 and younger, and their caregivers, will meet at Gilead Hill Elementary School on Mondays from 9: 30 a. m. to 10: 45 a. m. and Thursdays from 10 a. m. to 11: 15 a. m. in the Family Resource Center, and at Veteran's Park on Wall Street in Hebron on Fridays from 10: 30 a. m. to 11: 30 a. m. The Monday and Thursday sessions will run 14 weeks, beginning on Sept. 19, and the Friday sessions will run four weeks beginning Sept. 16.

In addition to play time, crafts, stories, songs and snacks for their children, parents will also receive information about child development and developmental screenings. The cost is $100 per family.

The First Steps in Music Class, also for children 5 and younger along with their caregivers, will be held at the Youth and Family Services bureau at 25 Pendleton Drive in Hebron. The weekly program will run on Wednesdays for eight weeks, beginning Sept.

21, with two options, from either 9: 30 a. m. to 10: 15 a. m. or from 10: 30 a. m. to 11: 15 a. m. A trained music teacher will help children develop rhythm while leading them and song, music, and instrumental play. The cost is $125 per family.

Finally, a Parenting Workshop will be held for a three- week session online over the Zoom platform. The workshop is appropriate for parent with children of any age, and will discuss how to handle emotions and communications using encouragement, reasoning, involvement, and humour. The workshop will be held on Thursdays beginning Sept.

22, from 7: 30 p. m. to 8: 30 p. m. The workshop is led by Dr. Debbie Kruenegel- Farr, a leading parenting coach in the country. The fee is $35 per family and includes the book " Enrich"

written by Kruenegel-Farr.

"Dr. Farr started her career as AHM's first Family Resource Center Coordinator," said Joel Rosenberg, one of AHM's board members who himself started out as AHM's first Executive Director nearly 40 years ago. " We are all very excited to see her return to where her career began in Andover, Hebron and Marlborough."
